Patients that have arthritis localized to the patellofemoral compartment (under the knee cap) typically have pain localized to the front of the knee. These patients with patellofemoral arthritis experience pain going up and down stairs, getting in and out of chairs and going up and down inclines, but typically have very little pain walking on level ground.
When non-surgical management fails to relieve your pain, you may be a candidate for a patellofemoral replacement. Using minimally invasive surgical techniques the patellofemoral joint can be resurfaced with size matched prosthetic components. The Mako robot allows precise presurgical planning of component size and placement and during surgery enhances the accuracy of component placement compared to traditional methods.
